3D printed SuperDraco engines not to blame in Space X Dragon accident Aerospace

Space X is in the process of testing the crewed version of its Dragon space capsule that will be capable of ferrying humans to and from the International Space Station. The date for the first test with humans on board(initially scheduled for July) however, will need to be moved up, as the capsule suffered a failure during the activation of its engine abort SuperDraco thrusters and – Space X just confirmed – was destroyed.

Sandvik Coromant launches 3D printed Lightweight CoroMill 390 Industrial Additive Manufacturing

Swedish tooling system specialist Sandvik Coromant has introduced a new metal cutting tool produced using additive manufacturing, the Lightweight CoroMill 390. The new product benefits from a lighter weight than the traditional CoroMill 390, which minimizes vibrations and improves security when machining with long overhangs. The Lightweight CoroMill 390 also unlocks new levels of productivity.

Rotterdam-based design studio The New Raw is no stranger to environmental causes—it’s whole mandate is to raise awareness about eco issues such as plastic waste with innovative design and technologies like 3D printing. Most recently, the group teamed up with the Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation in Greece to highlight the specific problem of abandoned fishing nets in marine ecosystems.
