Wematter Debuts Density 2021 Post-processing Solution

Swedish SLS 3D printing company Wematter has introduced a new product to its 3D printing solution: the Density 2021 Gen II, a water-jet cabinet designed to speed up post-processing. The next-gen water-jet cabinet uses a combination of water and compressed air to quickly treat 3D printed parts and significantly boost productivity.

The main changes to the Density 2021 Gen II are an improved aesthetic design and a streamlined user workflow. The newly launched product also requires less maintenance time than Wematter’s earlier model. Perhaps most notably, the Density 2021 comes with a new compressed air drying feature that shortens the wait time for finished parts to be tested.

The water-jet technology used to treat the printed parts is ideal for powder-based materials because it is gentler than other AM blasting processes and does not change the part’s surface structure. “By first using water to remove excess material with Density, cleaning of 3D models is done quickly and safely compared to using only compressed air,” explains Robert Kniola, Founder and CEO of Wematter. “In comparative tests, we have in some cases measured a reduction in the finishing time by up to 83%. From one hour to ten minutes per batch of 3D prints.”

The post-processing solution is also designed for easy installation. Though it relies on water, the Density 2021 does not require an external water connection because the liquid is recirculated. Moreover, the air compression system is driven by an integrated compressor, which means the whole system is powered by a standard wall plug.

Interestingly, the post-processing solution is not only compatible with Wematter’s own Gravity SLS 3D printer: it is available as a standalone solution. “The versatility makes Density 2021 Gen II the obvious post-processing choice for 3D printers, whether you are cleaning powder in the Powder Bed Fusion segment, removing wax from a PolyJet-printed part, or removing soluble support structure such as polyvinyl acrylate from an FDM print,” adds Kniola.

The Density 2021 Gen II launch comes just a few months after Wematter introduced Atmosphere, a thermal control unit built to improve the durability of SLS 3D printed parts. In 2020, the company also introduced a Deep Space 2.0 software update for its 3D printer which increases productivity.
