Anycubic Photon Ultra affordable DLP 3D printer in pre-sale for $399 3D Printer Hardware

We don’t usually cover Kickstarter fund-raising projects unless they are credible projects that come from verified companies, who are already on the market with other similar products. Anycubic is one such company. They have been developing high-quality, very affordable LCD stereolithography systems which are on the market and we have been able to test. So if they say they are launching a new, affordable DLP 3D printer, the Anycubic Photon Ultra, on Kickstarter, we see this as more of a pre-sale campaign than an actual crowd-funding.

While DLP is generally a more complex and expensive technology than LCD, the Anycubic Photon Ultra is likely to ensure an adequate balance between quality and cost. By embracing DLP technology, Anycubic is aiming to make it more accessible to its customers. The printer debuted on Kickstarter on Sep 14th (11 AM EST/4 PM UK/5 PM Europe/11 PM Hong Kong) through to Oct 14th at a price of just $399 (US) for the first 300 units, $459 for 500 units and $499 for 2000 units. After the Kickstarter campaign concludes, the retail price will be $599.

Starting with the first desktop LCD printer Anycubic Photon released in 2017, Anycubic has continued to broaden the adoption of resin 3D printing. The printers climbed on the best-selling list and provided a our base for the Photon series. And the Photon series quickly became a staple in many makers’ tool kit.

To meet customers’ increasing demand for a longer lifespan and higher precision Anycubic is now upgrading to DLP, challenging a market made up of several industrial level machines costing thousands of dollars, which reduces their possible audience. The new, affordable DLP 3D printer is meant to shatter these barriers and unleash a revolution at the intersection of creativity and technology.

Anycubic Photon Ultra also comes with Texas Instrument’s latest DLP technology. Compared with the LCD 3D printers, it has a powerful light source that throws UV light at a DLP chip. The DLP chip is an array of hundreds of thousands of tiny mirrors that can reflect the incoming light rays.

Because the Anycubic Photon Ultra uses a digital light projector to cure the resin, it can deliver light more evenly with uniformity 5%-15% higher than LCD printers. So it will bring you a considerable improvement in the model’s details and texture. In addition, the new affordable DLP 3D printer ensures over 20000 hours of screen life, 10X longer than LCD printers. Another benefit is energy saving. In an MSLA system, the light source is typically an array of LED lights. However, there’s usually a single light source in a DLP system, which is more efficient. Only 12W are consumed during operations for the Anycubic Photon Ultra, compared to up to 60W for MSLA systems.
