PrintSky to develop actuation systems for Collins Aerospace Aerospace

PrintSky, a French joint venture between Sogeclair and AddUp, created in 2019, and specialized in developing and manufacturing complex metal 3D printing components, has been selected by Collins Aerospace to participate in its research program for a new generation of flight actuation.

Supported by the French Civil Aviation Authority (DGAC) as part of the France Relance initiative, this program focuses on developing new technologies for a more sustainable aviation industry by 2030. PrintSky will bring its expertise in design, manufacturing, and qualification of additive manufacturing parts in the aerospace industry, to this project.

An electromechanical actuation is a complex system integrating various components (sensors, engines, electronic cards, etc). The structure of these actuation systems, designed and manufactured by PrintSky, is intended to ensure several functions – to resist mechanical loads, to dissipate the heat emitted by the components, or to be tight and insensible to electromagnetic disturbances. Given the complexity and criticality of the structure – it is a well-suited application for additive manufacturing. “Thanks to our technologies, we can optimize the structure of the actuation system and integrate multi-physical functions such as a heater and other peripheral parts,“ explained Nicolas Correge, Sogeclair New Technologies, and PrintSky, Manager.

PrintSky relies on 3D printing technologies developed and manufactured by AddUp, in France. Thanks to AddUp’s additive manufacturing, it is possible to produce complex geometrical parts that are less bulky, lighter, and still made of durable materials – which are all vital prerequisites for companies such as Collins Aerospace. “PrintSky offers a multifunctional solution for new generation equipment such as heat exchangers and electromechanical components so as to contribute to the transformation of the aeronautics industry and meet decarbonation challenges,“ added Nicolas Correge.

BOFA to provide portable fume filtration technology to Addifab: Addifab has developed a unique three-step soluble mold solution that enables manufacturers to create complex injection mold tooling in a matter of hours, compared to weeks, or months using conventional methods. Addifab uses a ‘Print-Inject-Dissolve’ process to create high-precision prototypes from a wide range of feedstocks, such as composites, thermoplastics, silicones, ceramics, and metals. As a result, developers can move from concept to commercialization at the speed of 3D printing.
