First 3D Printers Installed at LimaCorporate ProMade PoC Center at HSS in NYC Medical

LimaCorporate installed the first EOS metal LPBF (DMLS) 3D printers to the new ProMade PoC Center for Complex Orthopedic Solutions at HSS in New York City. The ProMade PoC Center will also host EBM printers when it will be officially inaugurated later this year.

The company, originating in Northern Italy, was among the very first to embrace this game-changing technology over 14 years ago when commercially available EBM printers and the associated quality controls did not exist.

LimaCorporate focused on creating proprietary processes and quality controls to deliver the same quality that customers have come to expect since the company’s beginnings in 1945. The success of these ventures have been validated by clinical heritage and recent MDR certification for these Class III custom made devices.

The ProMade PoC Center will implement these same proprietary processes and controls. The first-of-its-kind collaboration with the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) was first unveiled in early 2019 as it established an additive manufacturing facility for custom implants within a hospital environment. By founding the AM facility, the partners hoped to improve the availability and accessibility of personalized orthopedic care within the U.S.

The collaboration between Lima and HSS is not unprecedented, as the NYC-based hospital has ordered patient-specific implants from the Italian company’s headquarters since 2016. These implants, part of LimaCorporates’s proprietary Trabecular Titanium offering, have been used in recent years to treat highly complex orthopedic cases.

The new facility is located on HSS’ main campus in the Upper East Side in New York. By instituting a dedicated AM facility within the hospital setting, the wait times for producing and shipping custom implants will be reduced, facilitating treatment processes for medical professionals and ultimately improving care for patients.
