This project features a collection of Mimaki full-color 3D printed low-poly animal figurines. Instead of hiding polygons beneath smooth organic surfaces, the designs use angular planes as their main visual language. The result is a playful series that feels halfway between wildlife sculpture, digital art, and a set of collectible desk companions.
Mimaki full-color 3D printing was well suited to the project because it produced the models and their color information together. Each animal could retain its own recognizable palette, markings, and facial contrast without a separate manual-painting stage. The technology also supported consistent output across multiple designs, which is valuable when a client wants several characters to feel like members of the same collection.
The printed pieces demonstrate how a deliberately simple modeling style can become a strong physical product. Low-poly animals can work as decorative objects, educational displays, branded gifts, game merchandise, or the starting point for a larger collectible series. Solution
- Step 1: The animal models were reviewed for printable wall thickness, stable contact points, small features, and consistent scale across the collection.
- Step 2: Geometry and color data were prepared for Mimaki full-color 3D printing, with attention to color boundaries, markings, and the readability of the faceted surfaces.
- Step 3: The models were arranged for production so multiple character designs could be manufactured efficiently within the same workflow.
- Step 4: The complete collection was printed directly in full color, avoiding separate molds and a full manual-painting process.
- Step 5: The parts were cleaned carefully to protect small protruding features and preserve the intended low-poly edges.
- Step 6: Final inspection checked color placement, surface condition, standing stability, detail clarity, and consistency between the different animals.
