This project brought two imaginary aquatic people out of the client’s original world and into reality as full-color 3D printed miniatures. Their droplet-shaped heads establish a shared species identity, while different styling and color choices allow each character to feel like an individual rather than a simple duplicate.
Producing the figures in full color made it possible to present the characters as complete designs in a single physical sample. The client could review the proportions, color relationships, visual balance, and overall appeal without relying only on a screen rendering. At this scale, even a small model can reveal whether an original character concept has enough personality to support a wider fictional universe.
The finished miniatures feel like tiny visitors from an underwater civilization: small enough to sit in one hand, yet distinctive enough to suggest stories, roles, and future companions. Solution
- Step 1: The two character models were reviewed for miniature-scale proportions, balance, wall thickness, contact points, and delicate protruding details.
- Step 2: Geometry and color information were checked together to ensure that the shared droplet-shaped design and the differences between the two characters remained clear.
- Step 3: Small features were assessed for printability, with particular attention to hands, feet, accessories, pointed head shapes, and other exposed areas.
- Step 4: The miniatures were produced in full color so the client could evaluate the complete character designs without a separate full manual-painting stage.
- Step 5: The printed figures were carefully cleaned to protect fine features and preserve the intended surface details.
- Step 6: Final inspection checked color placement, detail clarity, standing stability, surface condition, and consistency between the two aquatic characters.
