For mobile data storage devices, the U disk attracts lots of people鈥檚 attention. Though they are small, they are capable of holding a great deal of data. The U disk (also called USB hard disc drive) is a hard drive in USB form, which has magnetic hard drive platters spinning inside the enclosure. Each U disk has a bridge chip that can be used to manage the way that the drive is installed to the operating system.

As their mascot is a smiling cartoon lion, our client planned to customize 100 pieces of U disk enclosure in the shape of the lion. As they demanded, we printed the low-volume of enclosures with black Nylon powders.

Solution

• Step 1: Examine the model and check if the snap-fit structure is correct.
• Step 2: 3D print the upper and lower parts of the enclosures with our SLS 3D printer using SLS Nylon PA 12.
• Step 3: Post-process the enclosures, clear all the remaining powders, and test assembling.
