About Project

This full-scale test dummy is originally designed by China Automotive Technology & Research Center (CATARC) for the New Car Assessment Program (NCAP). Sensors are embedded in different positions on the dummy's body to measure temperature, humidity, wind speed, and heat radiation at multiple points at the same time. In addition, due to the special structure at the joints of the dummy, it is bent like the real human body. By measuring the simulated environment at specific points, the complete comfort experience is visually presented.

Solution

  • Step 1: For the convenience of placing various kinds of components, the dummy model is split into multiple parts. The thickness and details of some parts need to be adjusted for successful printing, especially the connecting parts.
  • Step 2: As the full-scale dummy is large even after splitting, our industrial large-scale SLA 3D printer is essential. SLA ABS-like Resin is chosen for its outstanding durability and machinability, which allows tapping and threading.
  • Step 3: Post-processing, includes support removal, sanding and polishing, post-curing and priming, etc.
  • Step 4: Assemble sensors and other electronic components into the prints.
