About Project

Designed by famous British architects Zaha Hadid Architects, Beijing Daxing International Airport鈥檚 unique plan and pioneering design details set it apart from its compatriots, forming a new type of transportation center that鈥檚 built for the future.
It consists of a central hub with six curved spokes. Six flowing forms within the terminal鈥檚 vaulted roof reach to the ground to support the structure and bring natural light within, directing all passengers towards the central courtyard.
Some people use 3D printing to build prototypes from blueprints, and some people use it to keep a remembrance of splendid architectural design. That's why we built the rooftop scale model of Beijing Daxing International Airport. This model provides an overhead view of the airport, which is one the best part of the design.

Solution

  • Step 1: Build the 3D model of the rooftop with Sketchup. It’s already simplified compared to the original model. Our designer and engineer adjust the thickness of the grid pattern and the hollowed lattice structure so that it is printable and requires fewer supports.
  • Step 2: Adjust the placement of the model in the slicing software and export it to our industrial 3D printer. The six curved spokes are connected with hollowed lattice so it should be printed in one piece. The material we use is SLA Durable Resin.
  • Step 3: Cut off the supports with a scissor. Rinse with IPA and polish to remove the marks. Then post-cure it with UV.
