About Project

Czech 3D printing company Prusa Research has designed a 3D-printable face shield for healthcare workers, and posted open-source files of it.

Company founder Joseph Prusa initially hoped to design and print respirator masks, given the current shortage, but found it untenable (he goes into details on that subject here). But he learned that healthcare workers also have a need for face shields, which can help with infection control, and these are in short supply as well.

We also received orders of making Prusa Face Shield. The mask is composed of three parts: forehead band, transparent sheet, and reinforcement. We have printed the forehead in low-volume with SLA Generic Resin.

Solution

  • Step 1: Adapting the SLA 3D printer and 3D printing the band from the STL files provided by Prusa.
  • Step 2: The bands need no support structure so we directly move them to a chamber, post-cure them with UV lights.
  • Step 3: Clean the bands and assemble them with transparent sheets.
