About Project
Check out this stunning evolution! Here we have two Titanium 3D printed Pikachus that perfectly illustrate the journey from industrial raw material to high-end collector’s piece.
On the left, we see the Raw Finish. This version showcases the natural, sophisticated matte grey of 3D-printed Titanium. It has a unique, slightly granular texture鈥攁 “industrial-chic” look that highlights the precision of the laser-sintering process. It feels incredibly lightweight yet possesses the legendary strength-to-weight ratio Titanium is known for.
On the right, we have the Electroplated Finish. What a transformation! After undergoing a meticulous multi-stage electroplating process, the Pikachu has been reborn with a flawless, mirror-like chrome surface. This isn’t just a “metallic paint” job; it鈥檚 a genuine metal bond that adds a luxurious brilliance, making the piece pop with reflections while maintaining the incredible durability of the Titanium core underneath.
Why Choose Titanium 3D Printing?
Titanium is the “gold standard” of additive manufacturing for those who refuse to compromise.
- Extreme Durability: Virtually indestructible compared to plastic or resin.
- Intricate Detail: Captures complex geometries that are impossible with traditional casting.
- Lightweight Strength: Perfect for everything from high-end jewelry to aerospace prototypes.

Solution
-
Step 1: The 3D model was designed in CAD software and sliced into thin layers to prepare for the printing process.
-
Step 2: The Pikachu figurines were fabricated using Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS) technology, where a high-powered fiber laser was used to fuse fine Titanium powder layer by layer.
-
Step 3: Once the build was completed, the parts were removed from the powder bed, and excess powder was cleared away.
-
Step 4: The support structures were carefully detached from the models using specialized cutting tools.
-
Step 5: For the raw version, the surface was lightly sandblasted to achieve a uniform, matte grey finish.
-
Step 6: For the shiny version, the Titanium surface was subjected to intensive hand-polishing until a smooth, mirror-like consistency was reached.
-
Step 7: The polished figurine was then submerged in an electrolytic bath, where a thin layer of chrome was deposited onto the surface via electroplating.
-
Step 8: Finally, both pieces were cleaned and inspected for dimensional accuracy and surface quality.
