About Project

The golden mechanical part is a brass sample with gold coating we made to show our manufacturing precision and surface effect.

Solution

  • Step 1: Add supports to the model, prepare the brass powders and preheat the printer chamber, then process printing with our metal 3D printer. The SLM 3D printer automatically spread out one layer of powder after another, and the laser will systematically touch the correct spots of each layer and sinter the object together.
  • Step 2: After printing finish, cool down the 3D printer and metal parts. Remove the part from the build plate with a band saw or wire EDM. Then comes the support removal. The supports need to be removed with a plier.
  • Step 3: In general, the SLM process can produce parts with tolerances of 卤0.003 in. (0.076mm) plus 卤0.001 in./in. (0.0254mm/mm) for each additional inch. But with post-process CNC machining, tolerances as tight as 卤0.001 in. (0.0254mm/mm) can be achieved. The combination of metal printing and CNC machining can save a lot of costs.
  • Step 4: When the surface finish reaches our standard, we electroplate it with 18k gold.
