About Project

This adorable scaled-down prototype brings to life a student's vision for a thrilling electric bumper boat ride at a recreation facility! The 3D printed round boat boasts a modern design with a sky blue exterior and playful pink accents. Four comfortable seats, each decorated with screened patterns, invite riders for a fun-filled adventure. A central table adds convenience, while a light pink staircase ensures easy boarding and exiting.

In place of a traditional steering wheel, a sleek control panel, colored in silver and black, takes center stage opposite the staircase. A large, light pink handle completes the futuristic look, promising intuitive control for an unforgettable ride. For additional safety, black and grey life vests were 3D printed and securely fastened to the seats.

This project showcases the incredible potential of SLA 3D printing for product development. With its high resolution and smooth finish, SLA creates incredibly detailed and realistic prototypes, perfect for bringing design ideas to life.

Solution

  • Step 1: Design Finalization. The design of the round bumper boat was finalized by a student, incorporating elements suitable for an amusement park setting.
  • Step 2: 3D Modeling. A detailed 3D model was created, featuring a control panel, four seats, a central table, a stair, and a handle.
  • Step 3: Color Scheme Selection. The primary color was chosen as sky blue for the boat, with pink for the seats, table, and stair. The control panel was decided to be silver and black, while the handle was light pink.
  • Step 4: SLA Printing. The prototype was printed using Stereolithography (SLA) 3D printing technology, which utilized a resin material to form the boat’s structure layer by layer.
  • Step 5: Component Assembly. After printing, the various components such as the seats, table, stair, and control panel were assembled to form the complete boat structure.
  • Step 6: Painting. The boat was painted in the selected colors, with the seats and table in pink, the stair and handle in light pink, and the control panel in silver and black.
  • Step 7: Life Belt Fabrication. Life belts were also 3D printed, then painted in black and grey.
  • Step 8: Pattern Application. Decorative patterns were screen printed onto the seats, adding aesthetic value to the design.
  • Step 9: Adhesion of Life Belts. The life belts were glued onto the seats, ensuring they were securely attached.
  • Step 10: Quality Check. A thorough quality check was conducted to ensure the prototype met all design specifications and safety standards.
  • Step 11: Prototype Presentation. The completed prototype was presented, showcasing the design and functionality of the electrically powered round bumper boat.
