The beautiful transparent artpiece is ordered from a sculptor. The rings are nested with each other, looking like a clover. And if you watch them closely, the rings are embossed with grid-like patterns. To achieve the totally transparent clear effect, correct material and careful post-processing are necessary.

Solution

• Step 1: Here is some tips for making tranparent parts summarized from our experience. PMMA is a choice, but machining it with CNC is difficult for such complex structure. PolyJet Clear Resin is a bit pricy for our client, so SLA Clear Resin is chosen on balance.
• Step 2: As there will be hard post-processing to make the parts clear, we adjust the 3D models by adding the depths of the grid patterns. Then we print it using industial-grade large-format 3D printer after adding supports.
• Step 3: Break the supports and wash the parts with IPA. Let the part completely air dry and apply two to three spray coats in a dust-free environment. Then post-cure with UV.
