3D printing can produce functional metal parts with DMLS/SLM printing technologies. However, if the model is just for presentation, then printing with metal will be pricy. The resin assembly parts can also have metal gloss by using metallic paint.
Solution
Step 1: The engine model is split into multiple parts. All of them need to be examined thoroughly for assembling. The requirement for tolerances is the same as metal 3D printing.
Step 2: Add the support structures to these models and arrange the placement so more parts can be printed at one time. SLA Durable Resin is chosen as it mirrors production plastics like ABS and PBT.
Step 3: Cut off the supports, polish with grater and sandpaper, then post-cure with UV. Spray with silver metallic paint. Try assembling the parts and make small adjustments.
