About Project

The China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC) is the main contractor for the Chinese space program. It is state-owned and has a number of subordinate entities that design, develop and manufacture a range of spacecraft, launch vehicles, strategic and tactical missile systems, and ground equipment. We are very honored to make the 1:100 display models of the core module of China's Space Station.

Solution

  • Step 1: As the model is just for display, we can split them not by function but by convenience of printing and post-processing. The model is offered by the client and has no modeling issue. If you also want to print some spaceships, there are many 3D models free for download on NASA.
  • Step 2: The models are split into multiple parts and there are many holes designed to insert the little parts. We arrange the parts in software and add necessary supports. Then 3D print all the parts with SLA Generic Resin using our industrial 3D printer. The layer thickness we set is 0.05mm.
  • Step 3: Rinse the models with IPA and post-cure with UV. Cut off all the supports, then polish with sandpaper. Paint the parts and glue them together. Screenprint the patterns onto the models.
  • Step 4: CNC mill the base and the holder with steel. Then spray the paint, screenprint the pattern, and spray clear acrylic oil.
