The Chinese sturgeon is a critically endangered member of the family Acipenseridae in the order Acipenseriformes. Historically, this anadromous fish was found in China, Japan, and the Korean Peninsula, but it has been extirpated from most regions due to habitat loss and overfishing.
Solution
Step 1: 3D modeling the Chinese Sturgeon based on historical data offered by the paleontologist. As it’s a 3.2m-long model that requires high precision, we decide to split it into 6 pieces.
Step 2: Arrange the models in the slicer software and add supporting structures, then 3D print the sturgeon model with our large-format SLA 3D printer using SLA ABS-like Resin.
Step 3: Remove the supporting structure, wash the parts with IPA, polish the surface with sandpaper, and post-cure the model with UV.
Step 4: Assemble and glue the parts together into one piece and paint by our experienced workers.
