About Project

We recently had the absolute pleasure of creating this custom 10cm-high model for a massive Girls und Panzer fan! Meet Kay, the charismatic leader of the Saunders University High School team.

Seeing her standing tall next to a modern tank really brings that “Saunders spirit” to life! Honestly, after working on this project and getting to know her character, we鈥檝e become a little obsessed with the series ourselves. There鈥檚 just something about her “fair play” attitude and that iconic golden hair!

The Magic of Full-Color 3D Printing

To capture the intricate details of Kay鈥檚 digital camouflage uniform, we utilized WJP (White Jet Process) technology. This is a cutting-edge full-color 3D printing technique that allows us to print the colors and patterns directly onto the model as it’s being built. It鈥檚 the perfect solution for anime characters because:

  • Complex Patterns: It handles the pixelated camo effortlessly.
  • Vibrant Finish: It provides a beautiful, opaque white base that makes colors pop.
  • Precision: While the body is printed in full color, we applied custom stickers for her eyes to ensure her gaze has that perfect, sharp anime look that fans love.

Solution

  • Step 1: The 3D digital model of the character was meticulously prepared and the digital camouflage texture was mapped onto the surface.
  • Step 2: The file was processed through slicing software where the White Jet Process (WJP) parameters were configured for optimal color accuracy.
  • Step 3: The model was printed layer-by-layer using a full-color photopolymer resin, where the colored inks were integrated directly into the material during the curing process.
  • Step 4: Once the printing was completed, the figure was carefully removed from the build platform and the sacrificial support structures were cleaned away.
  • Step 5: A specialized post-processing finish was applied to the surface to enhance the vibrancy of the camouflage and protect the material.
  • Step 6: High-definition eye stickers were precision-glued onto the face to ensure the character’s expression remained sharp and authentic to the anime style.
