About Project

The client designed this 6-player set that can be printed with a single nozzle printer. It comprises all resource tiles and player pieces. This version is more flat to be stackable. And magnetic beads are put inside for easier connection.

Solution

  • Step 1: Download the settlers of Catan stackable models from Thingiverse. The client chooses a thin version so the boards are easier to be stacked.
  • Step 2: Here we print the part with FDM 3D printing technology using FDM Flashforge PLA. It’s the cheapest material for 3D printing and allows acrylic painting.
  • Step 3: Here is a trick: put some magnetic beads inside when the base is 5mm high and move on printing, then the finished boards can attract each other no matter stacking or unfolding. Take the finished prints from the plane. Adding a raft or skirt would make this process easier.
  • Step 4: Polish the print manually with a grater and sandpaper to remove the remaining marks. Paint the models with brushes manually.
