About Project

A company that produces industrial machinery needed a flexible and durable coupling insert for their jaw couplings. They wanted a purple color to match their brand identity and a shore hardness of 90A to withstand high torque and vibration. They also wanted a dissected spider design to allow for easier installation and removal of the coupling.

They contacted FacFox, a leading provider of polyurethane casting services, and explained their requirements. FacFox suggested using open cast molding, a low-cost and efficient method to produce polyurethane parts with complex shapes and sizes. FacFox also offered to customize the polyurethane formula to achieve the desired color, hardness, and performance.

The company received their order of polyurethane spiders within a short time and was very satisfied with the quality, appearance, and functionality of the parts. They installed them on their jaw couplings and noticed improved performance, reduced noise, and increased service life. They thanked FacFox for their excellent service and decided to order more parts from them in the future.

Solution

  • Step 1: A pattern of the spider shape was placed in sand to create a mold.
  • Step 2: The pattern and sand were incorporated in a gating system. Then the pattern was removed.
  • Step 3: Liquid polyurethane with purple pigment was poured into the open mold.
  • Step 4: The mold was placed into a special oven to heat and cure the polyurethane.
  • Step 5: The polyurethane was allowed to cool and harden.
  • Step 6: The polyurethane spider was detached from the mold and shaved down to the desired size.
