About Project

A robotic arm (not robotic hand) is a type of mechanical arm, usually programmable, with similar functions to a human arm; the arm may be the sum total of the mechanism or may be part of a more complex robot. The links of such a manipulator are connected by joints allowing either rotational motion (such as in an articulated robot) or translational (linear) displacement. The links of the manipulator can be considered to form a kinematic chain. The terminus of the kinematic chain of the manipulator is called the end effector and it is analogous to the human hand.

One of our customers is a robotic arm manufacturer. They planned to attend an exhibition and show their newly designed robotic arm. The functional prototype is produced through FDM 3D printing technology. This robotic arm is made up of seven segments, joined by six joints. Thus we printed different parts using FDM PC-ABS and painted them in yellow, connected them with nuts and bolts, then assembled with wires, circuit, and motor.

Solution

  • Step 1: Examine the CAD files offered by our client, ensure all the parts can fit with each other and the tolerances are safe enough.
  • Step 2: FDM 3D printing different parts of the shell with FDM PC-ABS. Then, sanding them and painting with yellow dye.
  • Step 3: Assembling them with the wires, motor, and a computer; connecting all the parts with nuts and bolts.
