About Project

This transparent jar is one of the samples we would show to our clients. For high-fidelity models or final use parts, a smooth finish and true transparency may be required. FacFox offers two totally clear materials: Somos WaterShed XC 11122 and Somos WaterClear Ultra 10122. But please notice that clear material cannot guarantee clear prints. Some post-processing is necessary for turning them from semi-transparent to completely transparent.

Solution

  • Step 1: Stereolithography (SLA) 3D printing can create transparent objects that, with some post-processing, can be made optically clear. FDM technology can also print transparent projects, but it has higher requirements about nozzle temperature and build plate temperature, flow rate, print speed, etc.
  • Step 2: When printing finished, remove the supports and rinse it with IPA, then manually sand and polish it with 400-4000 grit sandpaper until the part becomes transparent.
  • Step 3: Spray with UV oil, which is the most important step.
