About Project

EN: These sculptural wine bottle holders connect Ningxia’s winemaking identity with the landscape and wildlife of the region. One design features a blue sheep, an animal closely associated with the Helan Mountains, climbing across a rocky slope. Another brings several regional wildlife figures together beneath the bottle. In both versions, the animals and terrain do more than tell a local story: their bodies, horns, backs, and rock formations become carefully positioned supports for the bottle.

A third version replaces the wildlife scene with an oversized cluster of grapes and curling vine leaves. After printing, the grapes were deliberately colored a deep burgundy-purple, creating an immediate visual link to red wine while preserving the fine granular character of the sand surface. The selective color also distinguishes this design from the warmer, earth-toned animal holders.

The series was produced directly as finished sand-based objects using Binder Jetting 3D printing, not as molds for metal casting. This tool-free process allowed the rocky bases, animal anatomy, clustered grapes, overlapping leaves, bottle cradles, and engraved details to be integrated into complex sculptural forms. The result is both display object and functional wine accessory, suitable for wineries, tasting rooms, hospitality interiors, regional gift collections, and limited-edition packaging programs.

Solution

  • Step 1: Define the target bottle dimensions, display angle, contact points, center of gravity, base footprint, and required clearance around the label.
  • Step 2: Develop the wildlife and grapevine concepts around the support geometry so that the functional cradle remains visually integrated with the sculpture.
  • Step 3: Check wall thickness, projecting horns and legs, grape connections, leaf edges, recessed details, and powder-removal access before production.
  • Step 4: Print each holder directly in sand using Binder Jetting, with no conventional tooling or separate metal-casting stage.
  • Step 5: Cure the printed parts as required, remove them from the powder bed, clear loose sand from the detailed surfaces, and apply the specified strengthening or sealing treatment.
  • Step 6: Finish the animal designs in their warm earth-toned appearance and selectively color the grape design in burgundy-purple, keeping the leaves and shadows visually distinct.
  • Step 7: Place a representative bottle in each holder to verify stability, label visibility, surface contact, and overall presentation.
