About Project

We recently had the pleasure of bringing a client’s vision to life – a highly detailed, full-color 3D printed figurine capturing a cherished moment. This project perfectly illustrates the incredible capabilities of advanced 3D printing technologies, specifically the White Jet Process (WJP), in creating lifelike, personalized keepsakes.

The goal was to create a miniature replica of a client, perfectly capturing their likeness, attire, and even their characteristic smile. The challenge was to achieve this with vibrant, accurate colors and a smooth, realistic finish that truly resonated with the original.

The Solution: Precision Full-Color WJP Printing

Utilizing cutting-edge WJP technology, we were able to deliver on every aspect of the client’s request. This process excels in its ability to jet ultra-fine layers of photopolymer resin, curing them instantly with UV light, while precisely mixing colors (including essential white ink) at a microscopic level.

The results speak for themselves:

  • Vibrant Full-Color Realism: As you can see, the figurine boasts exceptionally lifelike skin tones, the intricate grey of the hair, the deep texture of the suit, and the bold red of the pocket square. The WJP technology’s ability to blend colors at a voxel level ensures seamless gradients and accurate color reproduction that truly pops.
  • Exceptional Detail and Smooth Finish: From the subtle creases around the eyes to the fine texture of the suit fabric, every detail is rendered with remarkable clarity. The print’s surface is incredibly smooth, eliminating the typical layer lines often associated with other 3D printing methods, making it feel premium to the touch.
  • Accurate Proportions and Expression: The final figurine perfectly captures the subject’s pose and friendly expression, right down to the specific way the hands are placed. This level of accuracy is critical for a personalized item, ensuring it’s not just a model, but a true miniature representation.

This project underscores the power of advanced 3D printing in creating highly personalized and meaningful products. Whether it’s a “mini-me” for a loved one, a unique award, or a detailed prototype, full-color 3D printing offers unparalleled possibilities.

Solution

  • Step 1: The subject’s three-dimensional shape and texture data were captured using a high-resolution 3D scanning system.
  • Step 2: The captured scan data was cleaned and refined in specialized software to ensure the model was watertight and ready for printing.
  • Step 3: The finalized 3D model, including all color and texture information, was sliced into ultra-thin digital layers (voxels) for the WJP machine’s print path.
  • Step 4: The build platform was prepared and positioned within the 3D printer.
  • Step 5: Photosensitive resins, including the various color pigments and white ink, were loaded into the multi-channel print head system.
  • Step 6: Material droplets were selectively jetted onto the build platform according to the sliced data, utilizing the WJP (White Jet Process) technology.
  • Step 7: Each layer of jetted resin was immediately cured by powerful UV lamps, bonding it to the layer beneath and solidifying the model.
  • Step 8: Steps 6 and 7 were repeated thousands of times until the entire full-color figurine was completed.
  • Step 9: The finished figurine was carefully removed from the build platform.
  • Step 10: Any residual support material was cleaned and washed away from the completed figure.
  • Step 11: The model was post-cured using a final UV light treatment to maximize material strength and durability.
  • Step 12: The final, full-color WJP figurine was inspected for quality and detail before being packaged.
