About Project

The 18*21*16cm Ovis Ammon head sculptures cost about $800 in total as the painting process is labor-intensive. The client has built a multi-color 3D model but such a large model would cost much higher with PolyJet full-color 3D printing technology. Then he took our advice to print resin garage kits and paint them by hand. The pictures are not final work – we added some highlights to their eyes and glued some eyelashes.

Solution

  • Step 1: Examine the model and raise the plans of Polyjet printing and SLA printing. Give the quotes and list the strengths and weaknesses of the two technologies. Show the client some photos of the sculptures we have ever made to prove our painting skills.
  • Step 2: For a 16cm-high statue, the layer thickness of 0.1mm is good enough. Arrange the placement and add supporting structures to the model. Then 3D print the models with SLA Generic Resin using our industrial 3D printer.
  • Step 3: Rinse the model with IPA and post-cure with UV. Then spray with putty and carefully polish it to remove the marks. Paint the model with reference to the colorful renderings and real animal pictures.
