Lady Zhen, personal name unknown, was the first wife of Cao Pi, the first ruler of the state of Cao Wei in the Three Kingdoms period. In 226, she was posthumously honored as Empress Wenzhao when her son, Cao Rui, succeeded Cao Pi as the emperor of Wei. There are many poems depicting her beauty and now she became the goddess in the legend.

To launch the tourism project, the hometown of Lady Zhen ordered to build a giant statue and place it on the square of a theme park. As carving such a large statue is very costly, they turned to us and considered the 3D printing method.

After communicating with the artists, we first print a small 1:10 sample statue in one piece with an SLA 3D printer. The 3D model has gone through several revisions. Then we slice the model and print the wax pattern of each part, cast them through the lost-wax investment method with the material aluminum. In the end, all the aluminum parts are assembled and post-processed. With our special painting skills, the statue looks as if it was carved from white marble.

Solution

• Step 1: 3D modeling based on the design print from the artists.
• Step 2: Print a 1:10 scale model with SLA printing technology.
• Step 3: Modify the model according to the opinions of our customers.
• Step 4: Slice the 3D model and break it into several parts.
• Step 5: Print the wax pattern of each part with SLA resin.
• Step 6: Produce the aluminum parts with the lost-wax investment casting method.
• Step 7: Assemble all the parts, sanding and polishing.
• Step 8: Painting the whole statue.
