About Project

A wine region is built by more than vineyards and bottles. It is built by people willing to begin before success is guaranteed. At the entrance of Anmo Hotel, 97 framed reliefs turn that history into a pair of monumental “HERO” walls honoring the pioneers of Ningxia’s wine industry.

Each artwork combines a founder’s portrait or winery story with identifying elements such as the estate name, logo, wine bottle, grapes, cellar imagery, or the Helan Mountain landscape. Produced with Binder Jet sand 3D printing, the series translates photographs and graphic references into tactile, layered scenes. The fine granular material gives the bronze-toned reliefs an earthy character that feels especially appropriate for a story rooted in soil, vines, craftsmanship, and time. Although every panel is personal, the coordinated format, relief language, framing, and color treatment allow all 97 pieces to read as one collection.

The final installation works at two scales: visitors can step closer to discover individual faces and wineries, then move back to see the larger word “HERO” emerge from the arrangement. It is simultaneously a portrait archive, regional brand display, and spatial tribute. Solution

  • Step 1: Portrait photographs, winery names, logos, bottle imagery, regional motifs, framing dimensions, and the overall wall layout were collected and organized for all 97 works.
  • Step 2: Each composition was translated into a digital relief, with depth assigned to facial features, clothing, typography, logos, bottles, grapes, architecture, and landscape elements.
  • Step 3: The files were reviewed for minimum feature size, readable text, relief depth, border clearance, consistent panel proportions, and compatibility with the selected frames.
  • Step 4: The relief panels were produced in batches using Binder Jet sand 3D printing, allowing every panel to carry different content without requiring an individual mold.
  • Step 5: After curing, the panels were carefully excavated and depowdered, with extra attention given to faces, lettering, logos, and other recessed details.
  • Step 6: The completed reliefs were checked for consistent bronze-toned appearance, readable imagery, clean borders, and uniform presentation across the full series.
  • Step 7: Each finished relief was matched to its designated frame, labeled, and organized according to the installation map.
  • Step 8: The 97 framed works were installed across both entrance walls at Anmo Hotel, with their positions collectively forming the word “HERO” on each side.
