The client, a railway bureau, ordered some wall decorations which can tell the stories of how they develop. Their original idea was to make them with stones, but then found it cost too much. Their designer found us to directly print sand reliefs with additive manufacturing technology. The sand prints have a vintage vibe, seem as if they witnessed the history.
Solution
Step 1: The designers draw the drafts and pass them on to modelers to build the 3D models after the client is consent.
Step 2: Build the 3D model in CAD, split the model into pieces as the printer is not large enough, then import the file to the 3D printer.
Step 3: 3D print the sand boards. No support is needed as the powder can serve as supports.
Step 4: Glue the sand boards together and adjust the details.
