About Project

The Scotch whisky brand customed 40 pieces of the scale-down resin models as gifts for VIP customers.
With 3D scanning, reverse engineering, and 3D printing technology, you can easily transfer an existing item to a smaller or bigger scale and duplicate it.

Solution

  • Step 1: Scan the original statue with the handheld 3D scanner EinScan Pro. The surface of the original statue is not so reflective that it doesn’t require temporary matte coating.
  • Step 2: Inputs the mesh files into the scanner software to repair small gaps and simplify the scan. The process targets making the data more manageable in CAD without losing too many details.
  • Step 3: Import the mesh into CAD software equipped with reverse engineering tools. Extract the shape of the scan in order to create a solid model that is editable with CAD tools.
  • Step 4: Once the scan has been converted to a solid, it can be subtracted from another solid body to create a statue model. Then scale the model to an ideal size.
  • Step 5: Arrange the models in slicing software and 3D print them in one batch.
