This project features a set of WJP 3D printed folk-style animal figurines made as full-color resin prototypes. The models look like small collectible art toys, with black base bodies, bright decorative patterns, exaggerated eyes, and cheerful expressions. The overall style sits somewhere between folk art, character design, and the kind of desk toy that quietly says, “I am cute, but I also have a whole backstory.”

WJP full-color 3D printing was used because the designs depend heavily on color placement rather than only geometry. The facial dots, eye rings, paw patterns, body stripes, and small decorative motifs are all part of the character identity. Printing the color directly on the resin model avoids the need for separate stickers or fully manual painting, which would be slower and less consistent for small repeated decorative details.

After printing, the figurines received an overall gloss clear coat. This gives the black areas a deeper visual effect and makes the saturated colors look brighter, closer to the display style often used for collectible toys and cultural creative products. From the available photos, the main character shapes are well defined, the eyes and facial details remain clear, and the decorative patterns are easy to recognize. Some color boundaries appear slightly soft when viewed close up, which is a normal tradeoff for small full-color printed figurines and is generally acceptable for design review, gift samples, or cultural IP prototyping. For mass-production art toys, additional color control, coating consistency checks, and durability testing would still be needed.

Challenge

The main challenge of this project was keeping the small animal characters both playful and readable after printing and coating. Each figurine has rounded surfaces, large cartoon eyes, raised facial features, and many small folk-style decorative patterns. On this kind of miniature art toy prototype, even a tiny color shift, softened edge, or overly thick clear coat can make the character look less lively.

Solution

• Step 1: The character files were reviewed before printing, including the rounded animal forms, raised facial features, color areas, and small decorative patterns.
• Step 2: The figurines were prepared for WJP full-color 3D printing so that the resin geometry and color information could be produced together from the digital model.
• Step 3: The parts were printed using full-color photopolymer material jetting, building the animal bodies, facial features, eyes, and decorative patterns as integrated full-color resin prototypes.
• Step 4: After printing, support material was removed and the small surface details were cleaned carefully, especially around the eyes, ears, limbs, and raised decorative areas.
• Step 5: An overall gloss clear coat was applied to enhance the visual depth of the black base color and make the bright folk-style patterns more vivid.
• Step 6: The finished figurines were inspected for overall shape, color readability, gloss coverage, and the visibility of small printed details.
