About Project
A lifelike insect model often needs more than the right shape. It also needs the small visual details that make the creature feel delicate, light, and natural. This iridescent transparent dragonfly model captures the long segmented body, raised eyes, thin legs, and wide transparent wings with visible vein patterns.
The most eye-catching part of this project is the wing design. The wings appear to be made with an ultra-thin 0.3 mm transparent structure, allowing light to pass through while still showing the fine mesh-like vein texture and colorful iridescent effect. For this type of biomimetic model, PolyJet 3D printing is a strong choice because it can combine smooth surfaces, transparent areas, and detailed color effects in one printed piece.
Models like this can be used for biological displays, art collections, educational props, museum samples, product displays, and nature-inspired design projects. For artists, studios, educators, and brands developing realistic display models, FacFox provides professional full-color and transparent 3D printing services for delicate visual prototypes. Solution
- Step 1: The dragonfly model was checked in the build software, and the ultra-thin wing areas, vein patterns, legs, eyes, and segmented body were reviewed to make sure the delicate geometry could be supported during printing.
- Step 2: Transparent and colored material settings were assigned for different areas of the model, including clear wing membranes, darker wing veins, iridescent body colors, glossy eyes, and small leg details.
- Step 3: Support structures were generated around the thin wings and fragile protruding parts, helping the transparent resin sections remain stable while the model was printed layer by layer.
- Step 4: The dragonfly was produced with PolyJet 3D printing, where photopolymer droplets were jetted and UV-cured to form the transparent wings, colored body, vein textures, and small anatomical features in one integrated print.
- Step 5: After printing, support material was carefully removed from the wings, legs, and body details, and the transparent areas were cleaned to improve clarity and light transmission.
- Step 6: The finished model was inspected under light from multiple angles to confirm the wing transparency, iridescent color effect, fine vein patterns, and overall lifelike appearance.
