About Project
Step into any flagship MLB retail space in Asia, and you’re instantly met with an undeniable vibe. It’s not just the sharp jerseys or the iconic caps; it’s the lifestyle. And nothing embodies that attitude more than their life-sized “MLB Crew” statues.
We recently got a look at these stunning unpainted prototypes, and we are absolutely floored by the detail! Looking at them in their raw, textured white state, you can see the precision. The statues aren’t just generic figures; they are crafted to resemble the actual brand ambassadors and influencers who define the brand鈥檚 streetwear aesthetic.
From the standing figure鈥檚 deliberate pose as she adjusts her baseball cap and holds her fanny pack, to the intricate draping of the jacket on the left, and the incredible, dynamic pose of the figure crouching for a selfie鈥攖he detail is mesmerizing. Every stitch, every fold of fabric, and even the hair details on the kneeling figure are flawlessly captured. Even in this “unfinished” form, their confidence is clear. They look like a crew of fashion icons frozen in a perfect moment of streetwear cool. It’s a fantastic testament to the power of 3D scanning and fabrication.

Solution
- Step 1: High-Resolution 3D Scanning The real-life brand ambassadors were posed in a professional studio where their entire bodies and outfits were captured using high-precision 3D scanners. Detailed digital meshes were generated to ensure that every fold in the fabric and facial expression was recorded accurately.
- Step 2: Digital Modeling and Sectioning The raw scan data was refined by digital artists to smooth out artifacts and optimize the geometry for printing. To accommodate the life-size scale, the 3D models were strategically sliced into several interlocking sections designed for seamless assembly.
- Step 3: Large-Format SLA 3D Printing The components were produced using industrial-grade SLA (Stereolithography) 3D printers. The statues were built layer-by-layer from a vat of liquid white resin using a UV laser, a process chosen for its ability to create exceptionally smooth surface finishes.
- Step 4: Post-Curing and Support Removal Once the printing was completed, the sections were cleaned in an isopropyl alcohol bath to remove uncured resin. The support structures were manually removed, and the parts were placed in a UV curing chamber to achieve maximum structural hardness.
- Step 5: Assembly and Surface Refinement The cured resin sections were bonded together using high-strength adhesives. The seams were filled with specialized resin putty and sanded extensively by hand until the joints were completely invisible, resulting in the “white statue” prototype phase.
- Step 6: Professional Painting and Finishing To achieve the iconic brand look, the assembled statues were moved to a dust-free spray booth. Multiple layers of high-pigment orange automotive-grade paint were applied, followed by a protective matte or semi-gloss topcoat to ensure the statues could withstand the high-traffic retail environment.
