3D Systems President and CEO Vyomesh Joshi announces plans to retire AM Industry

3D Systems President and CEO Vyomesh (VJ) Joshi, 65, has notified the Board of Directors of his decision to retire and the Board has initiated a search for his successor. Joshi will continue to serve in his current role until a new CEO is appointed and will then transition to be a strategic advisor to the company. The company is partnering with executive search firm Spencer Stuart to conduct a search for Joshi’s successor.

Poietis and Marseille-based hospital partner for bioprinted skin clinical trial Bioprinting

French bioprinting company Poietis has entered into a clinical research collaboration with the Assistance Publique – Hôpitaux de Marseille (AP-HM) to pursue a clinical trial for bioprinted skin tissue. Through the partnership, Poietis and AP-HM aim to carry out a Phase I clinical trial for an Innovative Advanced Therapeutic Medicinal Product (ATMP) for skin healing issues. The timeline for this phase is two years.

Essentium brings on GoPrint3D as reseller for UK and Ireland AM Industry

Industrial additive manufacturing company Essentium, Inc. has announced a distribution partnership with GoPrint3D, a UK-based supplier of 3D printing products. Going forward from the agreement, GoPrint3D will resell Essentium’s High Speed Extrusion (HSE) 3D printing platform across the United Kingdom and Ireland. Both companies hope their combined efforts will lead to the industrial-scale adoption of AM.

BEAMIT to purchase 15 more machines from SLM Solutions AM Industry

BEAMIT, Italy’s largest metal additive manufacturing service bureau, has come a long way since 3dpbm staff last visited the company’s AM facilities in 2013. The Fornovo-based firm has grown into one of the largest metal AM factories in Europe and – by extension – worldwide. However, its expansion is not slowing down. In fact it is accelerating with an agreement to purchase 15 Selective Laser Melting machines from SLM Solutions within the next three years. The commitment emphasizes SLM Solutions as the preferred supplier for BEAMIT’s machines.

GE, ORNL and PARC granted $1.3M to accelerate 3D part design for turbomachinery Industrial Additive Manufacturing

GE and partners at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Xerox-owned PARC have been granted over $1.3 million through ARPA-E’s DIFFERENTIATE program. The funding will enable the partners to pursue a research project aimed at reducing design and validation timelines for additive manufacturing by as much as 65%. If successful, the project could influence the adoption of industrial 3D printing technologies for energy systems, as it would effectively make AM faster than many traditional manufacturing processes.
