The FIA adds Scalmalloy to the list of approved additive materials for F1 Consumer Products

After Elementum’s own aluminum alloys, APWORKS‘s Scalmalloy aluminum alloy has now also been officially approved by the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile) and added to the Formula 1 regulation as one of the additive metal materials. Given that APWORKS is based in Germany it seems safe to assume that the current world champion Mercedes team will be making use of the material for its seemingly unbeatable vehicle. Mercedes F1 has been a major adopter of AM for rapid car development throughout its tenure.

SmithVent pneumatic ventilator wins CoVent-19 Challenge 3D Printing Events

Three months after the launch of the CoVent-19 Challenge, a winner has been named: the SmithVent. The device, designed by an engineering team from Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts, is a rapidly manufacturable pneumatic ventilator designed for COVID-19 patients and ease of use. The next step in the design challenge will see the low-cost ventilator being assessed and validated for use in Nigeria.

Be a part of Women in 3D Printing’s next DfAM report AM Industry

Women in 3D Printing, an organization dedicated to uplifting women in the additive manufacturing industry, has announced it is working on a special edition of its annual DfAM report (Diversity for Additive Manufacturing). While past editions (there have been three to date) have focused primarily on the gender disparity in 3D printing, this upcoming edition will address a wider form of diversity and inclusion. As part of its research for the report, Women in 3D Printing is inviting members of the AM industry to partake in a quick survey about diversity in the workplace.
