About Project

Today, we want to share with you one of our recent projects: a FDM 3D printed black PLA N64 HDMI mod kit present prototype. This is a 3D printed replica of one of the parts in the N64 HDMI mod kit, which is a device that allows you to output digital video and audio from your N64 console to an HDMI port. This mod kit requires some soldering skills and a compatible N64 model, but the results are amazing. You can enjoy your favorite N64 games in up to 1080p resolution, with various options for filters, scanlines, and aspect ratio.

However, this prototype is not functional. It is just a cool-looking accessory that you can use as a keychain, a pendant, or a decoration. It is 4cm-long and has the letter 鈥淕鈥 and 鈥淗D64鈥 clearly printed on it. It looks like a mini version of the actual mod kit part.

We used FDM 3D printing to create this prototype, which is the most popular and affordable 3D printing technology. FDM stands for fused deposition modeling, and it works by extruding melted plastic filament through a nozzle and depositing it layer by layer on a build platform. FDM can print complex geometries and simple housings and fixtures. We chose black PLA as the material, which is a biodegradable and eco-friendly plastic that has good strength and durability.

We are proud of the quality and speed of our 3D printing service. This prototype arrived in less than a week, and it looked exactly like the 3D model we received from our client. The details were sharp and smooth, and the black PLA had a nice matte finish. The prototype was also lightweight and sturdy. We think it is a great way to showcase our expertise in FDM 3D printing and our passion for retro gaming.

Solution

  • Step 1: a 3D model of the N64 HDMI mod kit part was obtained from the client or created using a 3D modeling software. The 3D model was then converted into a STL file, which is a standard format for 3D printing.
  • Step 2: the STL file was uploaded to the FacFox website, where the client could choose the settings for the 3D printing service. The settings included the material, color, layer height, infill density, support structure, and post-processing options.
  • Step 3: The client chose black PLA as the material, which is a biodegradable and eco-friendly plastic that has good strength and durability. The client also chose a layer height of 0.1 mm, an infill density of 20%, and no support structure or post-processing options.
  • Step 4: the STL file was sliced into layers using a slicing software, which generated a G-code file that instructed the 3D printer how to move and extrude the filament. The G-code file was then sent to one of the professional FDM 3D printers in the FacFox network.
  • Step 5: The FDM 3D printer used a heated nozzle to melt the black PLA filament and deposit it layer by layer on a build platform. The nozzle moved according to the G-code file and followed the shape of the 3D model. The build platform moved down after each layer was completed.
  • Step 6: the model was removed from the build platform and inspected for quality and accuracy. The prototype was then packed and shipped to the client鈥檚 address.
