Solution

• Step 1: The high-resolution 3D models were designed with intricate anatomical textures and then prepared for the printing process using specialized slicing software.
• Step 2: Fine stainless steel powder was spread across the build plate and selectively fused layer-by-layer using a high-power laser in a SLM printer.
• Step 3: Once the printing was finalized, the cicadas were carefully removed from the powder bed and separated from their support structures.
• Step 4: The raw, matte surfaces were subjected to intensive mechanical polishing and sandblasting until a smooth, uniform finish was achieved.
• Step 5: An ultra-thin conductive layer was applied to the steel, after which the pieces were submerged in an electrolytic bath.
