About Project
There is something timeless about the silhouette of a cicada-a symbol of rebirth, summer, and delicate precision. We’ve taken that organic beauty and elevated it into a stunning piece of industrial art.
These aren’t your average figurines. Every segment of the wing and the texture of the body has been captured with microscopic detail, blending the world of entomology with high-end craftsmanship.
The Craftsmanship Behind the Glow:
- Material: High-grade Stainless Steel, providing a weight and durability that feels substantial in the hand.
- Finish: Expertly Electroplated in Gold, giving it a radiant, mirror-like luster that catches the light from every angle.
- Process: Precision 3D printing allows for complex geometries-like those overlapping wing textures-that would be nearly impossible to achieve through traditional casting.
Whether as a unique desktop centerpiece, a bold fashion accessory, or a collector’s item, these golden cicadas prove that 3D printing is the new frontier of luxury decor.

Solution
- Step 1: The high-resolution 3D models were designed with intricate anatomical textures and then prepared for the printing process using specialized slicing software.
- Step 2: Fine stainless steel powder was spread across the build plate and selectively fused layer-by-layer using a high-power laser in a SLM printer.
- Step 3: Once the printing was finalized, the cicadas were carefully removed from the powder bed and separated from their support structures.
- Step 4: The raw, matte surfaces were subjected to intensive mechanical polishing and sandblasting until a smooth, uniform finish was achieved.
- Step 5: An ultra-thin conductive layer was applied to the steel, after which the pieces were submerged in an electrolytic bath.
- Step 6: Through the electroplating process, a consistent layer of genuine gold was chemically bonded to the stainless steel substrate.
- Step 7: A final quality inspection was performed to ensure the plating thickness was even and the fine wing details remained sharp before the pieces were placed in their custom display boxes.
