About Project

Blending ancient natural beauty with modern design, Dekey Studio's sculptural lamp is a striking tribute to the iconic Taihu stone, a cherished element in classical Chinese gardens. With its fluid curves, intricate hollows, and organic contours, the lamp evokes the meditative calm and philosophical depth long associated with scholar's rocks.

Unlike the traditional stones formed by centuries of natural erosion, this contemporary reinterpretation is born from digital precision and additive manufacturing. The porous body, surrounding a soft-glowing bulb, creates a poetic interplay of light and shadow, form and void – echoing the Taoist ideals of balance and emptiness.

To faithfully reproduce the complexity of Taihu stone's textures and voids, the lamp was 3D printed with SLS (Selective Laser Sintering) using white nylon powder. This material not only ensures durability and lightweight structure, but also enhances the tactile resemblance to stone, giving it a matte, refined finish.

Although this piece wasn't manufactured by FacFox, we offer professional SLS 3D printing services with a wide range of functional and artistic materials, including white nylon. Whether you're creating home decor, product prototypes, or sculptural art, our on-demand production capabilities can bring your vision to life with precision and speed.

Let your ideas take shape – beautifully and efficiently – with FacFox.

Solution

  • Step 1: The 3D model of the lamp was digitally sculpted by Dekey Studio, using CAD software to replicate the organic voids and curves characteristic of natural Taihu stones.
  • Step 2: The finalized model was exported in a printable file format (such as STL) and prepared for printing using slicing software optimized for SLS (Selective Laser Sintering).
  • Step 3: The model was 3D printed with an SLS printer, where a high-powered laser was used to sinter fine layers of white nylon powder into solid form, building the structure layer by layer.
  • Step 4: Once the print was complete, the lamp body was allowed to cool inside the powder bed to prevent warping or cracking.
  • Step 5: The surrounding unsintered powder was carefully removed using brushes and air blasting, and the lamp body was cleaned thoroughly.
  • Step 6: The printed part was inspected for dimensional accuracy and surface finish. Minor powder residues were cleared, and the piece was left unpainted to preserve its raw stone-like texture.
  • Step 7: The lighting components were assembled into the hollow core of the structure, and the entire lamp was mounted on a clean circular base with electrical wiring enclosed.
  • Step 8: The finished product was tested for functionality and quality, ensuring that the interplay of light and shadow through the porous frame achieved the desired visual effect.
