About Project

Gaze upon this fascinating miniature, a full-color representation of an elder man's head, brought to life through the innovative ColorJet 3D printing technology. The intricate contours of the face and the smooth expanse of the bald head are rendered in striking color, creating a unique and captivating piece.

This print showcases the potential of full-color 3D printing to capture nuanced details. Imagine the possibilities for creating personalized figurines, prototypes with realistic color schemes, or even artistic expressions in vivid hues.

While ColorJet 3D printing stands out as the most affordable full-color 3D printing technique, it's worth noting a couple of its current limitations. The color saturation tends to be at its peak, which in this case results in a noticeably reddish skin tone. Additionally, finer details, such as sharp features and individual strands of hair, might appear somewhat less defined.

Solution

  • Step 1: A digital 3D model of the elder man’s head was created using computer-aided design software.
  • Step 2: The 3D model was then sliced into numerous thin cross-sections by the printing software.
  • Step 3: A fine layer of powder-based material was spread across the build platform of the ColorJet 3D printer.
  • Step 4: Colored binder droplets were selectively jetted onto the powder bed, solidifying the material and applying color simultaneously, layer by layer.
  • Step 5: After each layer was printed, a fresh layer of powder was spread, and the process was repeated.
  • Step 6: This process continued until the entire miniature head was formed within the powder bed.
  • Step 7: Once printing was complete, the build box was carefully removed from the printer.
  • Step 8: The unbound powder surrounding the printed part was gently removed.
