About Project

3D printing has firmly established itself as a key technology within the footwear market, with many shoemakers turning to the process to develop sneakers with improved design, comfort, and customization.

Peak Sport, a Chinese sportswear company, has released a new 3D printed sneakers model. This pair of colorful and stylish shoes are printed with SLS 3D printing technology as one piece. Using SLS Fullcolor Nylon powders, the shoes have a beautiful surface characterized by relatively small, thin, yet visible brush strokes, like an Impressionism artwork. We can't imagine how much labor force would be cost by painting the shoes manually.

With constant jumping, starting, and stopping, basketball shoes are designed to act as shock absorbers and provide ankle stability with the flexibility to allow players to move laterally. As such, basketball shoes are much bulkier than running shoes. So, for the special parts of the shoes such as the midsole and neckband, Peak designs connecting parts to enhance the protection of the foot.

Solution

  • Step 1: 3D modeling the shoes. The hollow design aims to achieve lightweight as well as enhance breathability.
  • Step 2: 3D printing the shoes in one piece with SLS 3D printing technology using SLS Fullcolor Nylon.
  • Step 3: Post-processing, like cleaning up the unused/unsintered powder.
