Baijiu is a clear distilled liquor, which can be regarded as the national drink of China. Its name translates as “white wine” but it is, in fact, a high-alcohol spirit. Chinese people will generally drink Baijiu with food, rather than on their own.
A Baijiu company just designed the prototype of a wine order device. There are four hollowed-out goddesses standing on the base, each of which holds different kinds of Baijiu inside. When the customers select wine on the touch screen, the motor in the base will draw water upward, and the wine will flow from the tap.
In this stage, our client just ordered to make low-volume production of prototypes with SLA 3D printing technology. SLA is one of the most cost-saving technology in rapid prototyping, it’s much less expensive compared to other 3D printing or conventional counterparts, requiring no hard tooling as with plastic injection molding.
Solution
Step 1: Examine the 3D model and add supporting structure. As the prototype is designed to contain liquid, it should meet water-tightness and air-tightness requirements. Also, the statues are connected with the base through snap-fit structures.
Step 2: 3D print the hollowed-out goddess statues, the bases, and the tubes separately with SLA Generic Resin(White).
Step 3: Lift the prints from the plane of the SLA 3D printer, wash them, and remove the supports. The bottom of the statues is wide enough for our workers to remove the inner supports with tools.
Step 4: Polish the surface and then paint the patterns. Screen-print the company logo onto the bases.
Step 5: Assemble all the parts together, including the motor and screen, etc.
