This angel sculpt, with its white robes, blue sash, and layered feathers, is very sensitive to color shifts and surface artifacts, so it’s a great test for full-color printing. Below we compare the two printed versions against each other and against the original 3D model you shared.

WJP (Left) – Soft, Clean, Close to the 3D Model

Color & Tone

• Whites stay light and neutral, not heavily yellowed.

Overall, the WJP version preserves the airy, “holy” feel of the digital design.

Surface Finish

• Matte and even, with no reflective stripes.

Mimaki (Right) – Warm, Antique, More Dramatic

Color & Tone

• The overall tone is warmer and darker, almost sepia.
• Whites shift toward aged ivory, and shadows deepen noticeably.
• Hair becomes a richer brown-amber, which makes the figure look older.

Compared to the 3D model, Mimaki’s version feels less like a fresh statue and more like an antique church figurine.

Detail & Shadow Behavior

• Shadow areas around the wings, neck, and sleeves get heavier, so some subtle sculpt detail is lost.
• Feather layers look softer and more blended.

Surface Characteristics

• You can see reflective stripes and gloss patches on the surface – a common Mimaki artifact.
• Under strong lighting, these streaks break the illusion of a uniform white robe.

Mimaki delivers a vintage, weathered look, but deviates more from the original design.

Solution

• Step 1: The Angel 3D model was inspected and was repaired so that the mesh was watertight and suitable for full-color printing.
• Step 2: Color textures, including the white dress, blue sash, golden hair, and feather shading, were applied in the 3D software and were baked into texture maps.
• Step 3: The textured file was exported and was imported into the WJP full-color printing software, where the scale, orientation, and target resolution were configured.
• Step 4: A second build file was created in the Mimaki slicing software using the same scale and pose so that the two samples could be compared under identical conditions.
• Step 5: The WJP version of the angel was printed layer by layer in full-color resin, with geometry and color information being deposited simultaneously according to the sliced data.
• Step 6: The Mimaki version was then printed in full-color resin on the Mimaki system, using its own color profile and process parameters.
• Step 7: After printing, both angels were removed from their build platforms, and excess resin and any supporting structures were carefully cleaned away.
• Step 8: The models were post-cured under controlled UV light so that the resin was fully hardened and the colors were stabilized.
• Step 9: Minor surface particles were brushed off, and the bases were cleaned to ensure that each miniature could stand flat and securely.
