About Project

Fenghuang, commonly called the Chinese phoenix or simply Phoenix, are mythological birds found in East Asian mythology that reign over all other birds. The males were originally called Feng and the females Huang but such a distinction of gender is often no longer made and they are blurred into a single feminine entity so that the bird can be paired with the Chinese dragon, which is traditionally deemed male.

The phoenix has been the main role or costar or totem in Chinese story, film, and television works since ancient times. A prop master ordered 12 golden phoenix statue as movie props. We printed with SLA 3D printers and electroplated them with a copper alloy to achieve a golden and mirror-like surface effect.

Solution

  • Step 1: Drafting and 3D modeling based on the phoenix images provided by our client.
  • Step 2: SLA 3D printing the phoenix models in one piece with Generic Resin.
  • Step 3: Cutting off the supporting structure, post-curing them with UV.
  • Step 4: Electroplating the models with a kind of copper alloy.
