In the 2D age, the way we keep something is to observe it, draw it on paper, take photos, and even make taxidermy. Now we can produce the simulation bird model with the help of 3D scanning, 3D modeling, and 3D printing technologies. Our painter, with over 20-years of experience, can perfectly restore the features of the real birds with reference to high-resolution photos.
Solution
Step 1: Although there is no ready-made STL file, our client offered extremely accurate dimensions of the bird, which helped us a lot in the modeling process. The most challenging part is to build its feathers. The feathers should be thick enough or it may break during printing or post-processing.
Step 2: Add the supporting structures and arrange the placement in the slicing software. 3D print the model with our LCD 3D printer using SLA Durable Resin. The benefit that both DLP and LCD share, when compared to SLA, is build speed. Because there鈥檚 an entire layer flashed at once, instead of a single point, the two technologies are typically able to produce parts faster.
Step 3: Support removal, sanding, polishing, post-curing, air-drying. The whole post-processing takes patience to avoid breaking its feather. Then comes ground painting and fine painting. Our painter needs to refer to the photos of original objects from different views.
