You can't distinguish fake resin potatoes from real ones without touching them. Our client has customed these artificial potato models for display purposes. The resin prints are modeled with reference to different real potatoes they plant. The bumpy and grainy surfaces have all been printed and painted.
Solution
Step 1: The key factors of making realistic fake foods are 3D modeling and painting. The client offers samples of real potatoes they plant, and the designer builds the models with great patience. We can also scan the real food and repair the 3D scans. But it’s unnecessary for such simple objects.
Step 2: Looking for a better surface, the client decides to print solid models rather than hollow them. When the client is sure about size, material, and desired surface, we feed the STL file into slicer software.
Step 3: 3D print the full-scale potato models together with the necessary supports using SLA Generic Resin.
Step 4: Post-process them by washing them with IPA, cutting off the supports, and air-drying. Then spray with putty, paint using airbrushes, and specially picked colors. Finally, spray with UV oil.
