About Project

Step into a world where feline grace meets functional art with this captivating candlestick, brought to life through the precision of SLA (Stereolithography) 3D printing. Designed by the talented Ci Yingzun, this piece reimagines the traditional candlestick with a playful and imaginative twist. Four stylized resin felines, caught in a dynamic stretch, act as the steadfast guardians of the candlelight, their outstretched arms forming an elegant platform for your favorite tea lights.

This isn't just a candlestick; it's a conversation starter, a unique d茅cor element that injects personality into any space. The slender, elongated bodies of the cats exude a sense of movement and charm, while their gracefully curving tails, adorned with interconnected, droplet-like forms reminiscent of delicate rain chains, add an extra layer of visual intrigue. The elevated platform ensures the candlelight casts enchanting shadows, highlighting the intricate details of the 3D-printed structure.

What makes this candlestick truly special is the versatility offered through 3D printing. Designer Ci Yingzun has expertly leveraged the capabilities of SLA technology to present customers with a curated selection of finishes. As showcased in the images, you can choose from:

  • A sleek, solid black finish: Emphasizing the bold silhouette and sculptural form of the design.
  • A crystal-clear transparent finish: Allowing light to permeate the entire structure, creating a luminous and ethereal ambiance.
  • A delicate light pink/purple translucent finish: Adding a soft, warm hue and a touch of whimsical color to your d茅cor.

These diverse finishes demonstrate the power of SLA 3D printing in achieving varying aesthetic outcomes from a single digital design. The high resolution and smooth surface finish characteristic of SLA printing ensure that every curve and detail of the feline figures and their decorative tails is rendered with exceptional clarity and precision.

Whether you're looking to add a touch of playful elegance to your living room, a unique centerpiece to your dining table, or a thoughtful gift for a cat lover, this SLA 3D-printed candlestick is a delightful choice. It seamlessly blends artistic expression with practical functionality, showcasing the innovative possibilities of modern additive manufacturing.

Solution

  • Step 1: A digital 3D model of the playful feline candlestick was designed using computer-aided design (CAD) software.
  • Step 2: The digital model was then prepared for 3D printing by being sliced into numerous thin layers. Support structures necessary for overhanging elements, such as the cats’ outstretched arms and decorative tails, were also generated.
  • Step 3: The prepared file was uploaded to an SLA 3D printer. A vat of liquid photopolymer resin was filled. A build platform was lowered into the resin vat.
  • Step 4: A UV laser, guided by mirrors, was selectively used to cure and solidify each layer of the resin according to the sliced digital model. Each layer was built upon the previously cured layer.
  • Step 5: Once a layer was completed, the build platform was moved slightly upwards, allowing fresh liquid resin to flow beneath the newly formed layer. This process was repeated layer by layer until the entire candlestick structure was formed.
  • Step 6: After the printing process was finished, the build platform was raised out of the resin vat.
  • Step 7: The printed candlestick, along with the support structures, was carefully removed from the build platform.
  • Step 8: Excess uncured resin clinging to the surface of the printed part was cleaned off, typically by rinsing it in an isopropyl alcohol (IPA) bath.
  • Step 9: The cleaned part was then post-cured under UV light in a dedicated curing chamber. This process ensured the resin reached its final strength and stability.
  • Step 10: The support structures that were generated in Step 2 were carefully removed from the candlestick.
  • Step 11: Sanding was also required beyond cleaning and curing. It was sprayed with pink and black paint, and a thin layer of clear acrylic oil.
  • Step 12: The final 3D-printed playful resin felines candlestick was inspected for quality and accuracy before being prepared for distribution.
