3D Systems has completed comprehensive testing for new Figure 4 materials following ASTM and ISO standards. The new materials, developed for its scalable Figure 4 system, will soon have test data available, making adoption easier for end-use production applications in a variety of sectors.
9T Labs, a young startup founded in 2018, has introduced its first product, the Red Series by 9T all-in-one solution for composite series production. The company had scheduled the launch to coincide with JEC, the most important composite show in the world (which however has been postponed due to COVID-19 outbreak concerns): the chance to see it first hand will hopefully come around in May but in the meantime here’s what we know.
Sigma Labs, Inc., an expert in quality assurance software for additive manufacturing, announced it has been awarded a contract by Mississippi State University’s Center for Advanced Vehicular Systems (CAVS). The center, a leading interdisciplinary research hub focused on driving innovation in U.S. mobility industries, will integrate Sigma’s PrintRite3D software with a Renishaw AM400 3D printer.

CGTech, a specialist in simulation software for CNC machining, is partnering with Indiana-based manufacturing company Thermwood to simulate the additive manufacturing and subtractive machining capabilities of its hybrid LSAM systems. The hybrid manufacturing technology, notable for its ability to build large-scale objects, will be simulated using CGTech’s VERICUT software platform.
3D content platform Sketchfab made an announcement this week which will see high-quality 3D scans and models of cultural artefacts become more accessible through its platform. In short, cultural organizations using Sketchfab now have the ability to dedicate their 3D models to the Public Domain using a Creative Commons Public Domain identifier (CC0). As part of the announcement, Sketchfab has also unveiled collaborations with 27 cultural institutions from across the world, including the Smithsonian Institution.
Materials company Evonik has launched a new software tool for 3D printing that enables manufacturers to easily determine the optimal additive manufacturing process based on a part’s geometry and material, as well as on a financial analysis. The new software function was developed by Israeli startup Castor.
In digital factory environments engineers very often face the challenge presented by highly detailed CAD models generating heavy data and therefore preventing smooth handling in factory planning software tools. A new 3D_Evolution Simplifier function now automatically generates envelope geometry, especially for all major visualization tools. Due to the strong reduction in the number of elements, the Simplifier enables smooth and fast processing of large CAD models.
Lattice Technology, a software solution provider in the PLM space, released XVL Web3D Manager, a new product that enables viewing of complete product data (3D and metadata) using any modern web browser, accommodating even gigabyte-size 3D models with fast performance and access control.
