Dimension Inx, a biofabrication company developing regenerative medical products, announced two new appointments to its Board of Directors. Veteran medical device executives Dianne Hayes Blanco and James Koziarz, Ph.D., join company founders Caralynn Nowinski Collens, M.D., Adam Jakus, Ph.D., and Ramille Shah, Ph.D., becoming the company’s first outside directors.
Essentium and ECD have created a next-generation moisture-controlled cabinet, the DryBox, to store and protect 3D printing filaments. The partnership leverages ECD’s experience with dry storage systems; Essentium provides an established client base in the additive manufacturing space. The partnership is another step toward dependable industrial-grade AM applications.

thyssenkrupp is extending its gains in marine additive manufacturing by signing a letter of intent as a prelude to entering a joint venture with Wilhemsen Ships Services for custom manufacturing marine parts. The companies will collaborate on delivering maritime spare parts using 3D printing. thyssenkrupp, which already deploys additive manufacturing at its operations on the Kiel Fjord in Germany, joins with Wilhemsen’s experience in civil marine repairs. The joint venture facilitates repairs on older vessels. The companies expect to headquarter this effort in Singapore. The joint venture positions the companies as the world leader in maritime AM.
A new COVID-19 antibody detection device developed by researchers at Carnegie Mellon University, capable of identifying the antibodies within 10 to 15 seconds, is now entering a trial stage with COVID patients. The innovative system consists of a low-cost sensor made up of tiny gold electrodes 3D printed using Optomec’s Aerosol Jet technology.

Acoustic panels, which can help absorb unwanted sound waves, are traditionally made from fabric and wood, foam or high-density fiberglass. The acoustic panels of the future, however, could very well be crafted using 3D printing.

Dutch construction design firm Studio RAP has been 3D printing ceramic tiles for their work on design elements of the pioneering New Delft Blue project in the historic Dutch city of Delft. After printing these tests at Studio RAP’s workshop, the tiles went straight into the kiln at Koninklijke Tichelaar where they were also beautifully glazed.
