Since its founding in 2017, Dutch company Aectual has taken the tenets of 3D printing—including customization, design freedom and sustainability—to heart, applying them to the areas of architecture and interior design. Many of our readers will be familiar with the company: in 2018, it gained notice for 3D printing a section of terrazzo-style flooring in Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport. DMG Mori launched the LASERTEC 6600 system to 3D print 4 meter parts 3D Printer Hardware

At Formnext 2019 many were in awe seeing the very large LASERTEC 125 DED hybrid system from DMG Mori. This year there was no physical formnext but if DMG Mori could have shown its newest 3D printer it would have dwarfed it. The LASERTEC 6600 DED hybrid system is a behemoth with up to 1,040 mm on the X-axis, -280 mm to +330 mm on the Y-axis, 3,890 mm on the Z-axis. Yes you read correctly: that’s 4 meters (a bit more than 12 feet) on the Z-axis. Considering that the LASERTEC 65 hybrid could cost as much as $1.5 million, 3dpbm expects that the LASERTEC 6600 DED Hybrid’s price could levitate to above $3 million.

Desktop Metal has begun shipping a new, intermediate version of its P-50 Production System, the new P-1 printer, globally to its early customer base. Key clients who have already received the machine include Ford Motors, an early investor in Desktop Metal, and Cetim, the Centre Technique des Industries Mécaniques, in France, which is the first European institution to receive it. The P-50 remains on schedule to begin volume commercial shipments in 2021: achieving this milestone will be a key passage in DM’s strategy for growth, especially now that the company is publicly listed.
