Materialise Course Shows How to Implement 3D Printing in Hospitals Research & Education

As hospitals and surgeons continue to see the value and discover new applications for 3D printed models, more are bringing 3D printing operations to a point of care setting. To address the growing demand for 3D printing, Leuven, Belgium-based 3D printing solutions provider Materialise will host a course on implementing 3D Printing in Hospitals and in the medical field. The course will take place June 11-13, 2017 at the Inn at St. John’s in Plymouth, Michigan.

Microfluidics Design Wins Print the Future Competition and Will Be 3D Printed on ISS Aerospace

In order to drive innovation forward in space manufacturing technology, Enterprise In Space (EIS), a non-profit program of the National Space Society (NSS), has chosen the grand-prize-winning university students in its Print the Future competition. Announced at its 36th annual NSS International Space Development Conference (ISDC) in St. Louis, Missouri last weekend, the winner is Team ProtoFluidics’ microfluidic modules from University of Pennsylvania. Undergraduate students Adam Zachar, Laura Gao and Jaimie Carlson designed 3D printable modules that enable rapid prototyping of microfluidic experiments aboard the ISS.

Nervous System Uses New Formlabs Fuse 1 to 3D Print Entire Kinematics Dress AM Software

In preparation for the launch of the innovative, Fuse 1 desktop SLS system, Formlabs contacted leading 3D printing designers N-e-r-v-o-u-s S-y-s-t-e-m about using some of their Kinematics dress designs for their new secret project. They were particularly interested in printing a Kinematics garments, but the Fuse 1 machine is MUCH smaller than the 3D printer that fabricated previous Nervous Systems garments.

GE to Donate Metal and Plastic 3D Printers to Over 400 Schools AM Industry

More than 400 schools will receive 3D printers as a part of the GE Additive Education Program, reaching more than 180,000 students around the globe. Committed to developing pipelines of future talent in additive manufacturing around the world, GE will send a desktop polymer printer package to about 400 primary and secondary schools and a metal printing machine to eight colleges or universities.

Airbus Launches EUTELSAT Satellite with 3D Printed Parts and Electric Propulsion Aerospace

EUTELSAT 172B, the first high-power all-electric telecommunications satellite worldwide has been successfully launched from Kourou, French Guiana on an Ariane 5 space vehicle. Additive layer manufacturing, or 3D printing, played a key part in several elements on this satellite, including for a single printed bracket that is 35% lighter than and quicker to manufacture than the complex component it replaced.
